On October 28-29, 2006, FECEE conducted a methodological seminar on a Junior Achievement computer educational program MESE - Management and Economics Simulation - for Information Science teachers from schools and secondary institutions of professional training of Vladivostok and Nakhodka.

Five students from the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Sciences, FENU, and the chief economist of Far Eastern Center of Economic Development guiding this group of students, took part in the seminar as well. The students will teach economic theory with the elements of MESE game to schoolchildren from 5 schools of Vladivostok.

The computer educational program MESE as one of the courses of the Junior Achievement program is recommended by the Russian Ministry of Education as an elective course with the purpose to profile educational process in the framework of the reform in the system of Russian education.

Digest of recent MESE activities in the Russian Far East:

On February 21, 2006, in the framework of the project "Cooperation in the development of small and medium business in Khabarovsk" there was held a competition between students of 6 universities and entrepreneurs of Khabarovsk on MESE.

The idea of the competition is to join potential employees with potential employers at the "labor market".

Employees – 12 economics majored students participating in the Project who got right to participate in the competition with entrepreneurs and got Junior Achievement certificates on MESE.

"Labor market" is the field of the competition where the competition participants could try themselves as owners and managers of a company in a competitive environment modeling the real world, and achieve the most efficient management. When the competition ended, there was held a round table for the students and entrepreneurs on the issue of Youth at the labor market.

On March 23, 2006, at school 22 of Vladivostok, there was held a City Competition on MESE game among schoolchildren of Vladivostok.

The goals of the Competition were:

  • Contribute to the exchange of experience and establishment of mutual contacts among teachers and schoolchildren of Vladivostok schools;
  • Participation of Vladivostok schoolchildren in All-Russian MESE Competition "MESE Cup-2006" according to the results of the City Competition;
  • Participation in the International MESE Competition.

In August 2006, schoolchildren from Ekaterinburg, Russia, became winners of the MESE International Net Competition, the final stage of which was held in Palo Alto, California, USA. The winners got a $3,000-worth certificate from Hewlett Packard, the general sponsor of the Competition.
