On April 24-26, 2006 at Khabarovsk State Academy of Economics and Law there was held a seminar training Strategic Planning conducted by FECEE and Khabarovsk State Academy of Economics and Law in the framework of the Project Cooperation in the development of small and medium-size business in Khabarovsk.

During the seminar the participants watched business plan presentations of WWU (Western Washington University) Business College students (Bellingham, USA) supervised by professor John Sands, and the Starbucks strategic presentation performed by WWU students.

One of the assignments for students was to make analysis of the city of Khabarovsk, local society, and the Project using SWOT-analysis tools.

Vitkovskaya Natalia Nikolaevna, FECEE director, performed as a trainer of the seminar.

On April 27, 2006 at Khabarovsk State Academy of Economics and Law there was held a presentation of business plans developed by the students participating in the Project.

Topics of the business plans were as follows: "Agency of translators", "Foam concrete production", "Utilized automobile tires recycling", "White sail" cleaning company", "Seafarer" fishing company", "Kindergarten "Star", "Cafe "Litsa".

Contest results:

1 st place – business plan "Kindergarten "Star" developed by Elena Shestak (Khabarovsk State Academy of Economics and Law)

2 nd place – business plan "Foam concrete production" developed by Sergey Korobov (Far Eastern Institute of International Business)

3 rd place – equal number of points gained:

  • business plan "Utilized automobile tires recycling" developed by Tamara Samsonova, Kristina Kurnikova, Alexey Bykov, Alexander Voronenko (Khabarovsk State Academy of Economics and Law)
  • business plan "Agency of translators" developed by Rimma An (Far Eastern Institute of Management, Business and Law), Lidiya Novakova, Anna Sakharova (Khabarovsk State Academy of Economics and Law),Dmitry Syukarev (Far Eastern State University of Communications).

The winners of the Contest got diplomas of the Ministry of Education of Khabarovsky Krai.

At the same day there was held a Round table the topic of which was Youth entrepreneurship as a potential of small and medium-size business development in the Russian Far East.

Purpose of the Round table: determine ways of cooperation among authorities, business and universities to develop youth entrepreneurship.

Questions recommended by FECEE to be discussed:

  • Perspectives of youth entrepreneurship development in Khabarovsk. Authorities position. Subprogram "Youth entrepreneurship" in the Program "Entrepreneurship development", developed by Khabarovsk City Administration".
  • Position and role of the business society in the development of youth entrepreneurship.
  • Problems in training young specialists to perform in small business activity.
  • Financial institute opportunities in the issue of youth entrepreneurship development.
  • Opportunities and perspectives to create business incubators in the framework of the Information and Consultancy Center's activity.

Issues that students, Project participants, are interested in:

  • How to start a business?
  • Where to get money?
  • Where to find investors?
  • How to get a credit not having security deposit and financial success story?

Experts' feedback:

Ivanova N.V., Vladivostok: "I think that presented business plans deserve not only good marks. We should take into consideration that the business plans were reviewed by professional experts, representatives of credit and financial institutions, local community and authorities. Such good marks is a good indicator of the work carried out, the work performed by FECEE, first of all".

The Far Eastern Center for Economic Education signed an Agreement of cooperation with the Vladivostok City Administration; and our partner Khabarovsk State Academy of Economics and Law signed and Agreement of joint activity and cooperation in the framework of the Project with the Khabarovsk City Administration.

Coca Cola Vladivostok Bottlers performed as a sponsor of the Project (regional manager Maria Raspopova). During all the three seminar trainings the participants were provided with Coca Cola drinks.

Far Eastern Center for Economic Education proposed to conduct the following activities by off-budget means:

  • videoconference session for university students, Administration and business representatives of Khabarovsk and students of the Business College of Western Washington University, Bellingham, USA (June, 2006);
  • summer economic camp for 4-5-year Economics major students(July, 2006)
